I Love the 80's

So I love hulu.com. The site gives me the chance to watch all my favorites shows on my own time. However, it's also given me time to watch some classic shows, like Doogie Howser MD, that I was a little too young to watch when they were originally shown.

Part of what I love about these shows is the clothes. They were just so fun. Plus they're not all neon and crazy like we typically think when we go to different 80s themed costume parties. Sure the clothes are a little dated, but they say history repeats itself so I guess that means that we can look forward to new takes on those styles - just like Mad Men, has made 60s chic come back into style.

I also love these shows because even if there's something hard going on in a characters life it's always resolved neatly by the end of the episode and you leave with a smile on your face. It's not all death and drama and depression like TV these days.

I guess you could say I have some nostalgia for the 80s. While it's not like my yen for 1920s Paris as a golden age type of nostalgia, it's a nostalgia for when TV was a little more wholesome. Don't get me wrong I love a lot of TV shows that air today - to the point that you could say I'm a little obsessed. However, I also still miss when TV was for the family and you didn't have the need for all the parental controls like you need today.

It's nice to watch shows where you know how it's going to end and there's no real twists and turns. It's simple happy brain food.

So go to hulu.com and go back to those classic shows. Start with Doogie because honestly watching Neil Patrick Harris as a kid is adorable.

Happy TV Hunting!
