Hey Hey!
So I'm interning this summer and the big question is always what should I wear. Now this internship is a lot different than my last one. At my last one it was fairly easy to decide - a suit, either loafers (for running around the office and driving) or kitten heels (not above 3 inches), and an extra sweater in case I didn't want to wear the suit jacket but it was still chilly in the office. So last summer it was really easy to get dressed in the morning, like wearing a uniform.
This summer however, my internship is a lot more casual. And by a lot more I mean a total 360. No one is wearing suits and the dress code seems fairly lax. However I still don't want to cross any lines fashion wise because I'm still representing the people I work for even if I'm not directly with them.
However, because it is casual I can have a lot more fun and play a lot more with my clothes. Now instead of loafers I've upgraded to fun flats - for a pop of color but not obnoxious and bothersome because they're on my feet and a lot less distracting. My personal new favorites are my Michael Kors Oddette Flats in Neon Pink for $104.99 on zappos.com (hurry and get them quick! They were originally $150.) They're so comfy! I don't get blisters and I can move quickly - all important when looking for a good flat for work. Plus I can wear them from work to a night out. Always love when a piece can do double duty.

Also I can now wear jeans (as long as they are well tailored and not too tight or distressed) which is a huge plus since they are much more comfortable in the summer than a full suit. I tend to shy away from shorts in a work setting unless they are mid thigh length or longer. Any shorter and it sends a message of disrespect. It also means that as long as they aren't too bright and I anchor them with more neutrally colored pieces I can wear colored jeans a la Kate Middleton, Duchess of Cambridge.

I also could do something similar to Reese Witherspoon (who's style I love on and off the red carpet). Reese's look would be more applicable for days when I'm not going to really be interacting with people. However still office appropriate - if your office is a casual one. It great that she anchors the looser top with a much more form fitting but not too tight bottom. I wouldn't recommend wearing sandals to the office - my feet tend to get really cold - but if your office allows it do so as long as they aren't flip flops.
Another great option to wear to the office now is a sundress and a sweater. Just make sure it's not too tight, revealing, or bright. You should stick to neutrals or very tiny floral prints (if the office is really casual). Also if the dress is strapless or show your shoulders wear a sweater. Again Reese nails the look. Pair your sundress with cute heels, wedges, or flats, just make sure they're office appropriate with lower heels, and try to keep them closed toe or peep toe at the most. The key to a casual office is to have something that is casual but at the same time respectful - don't wear what you would wear out with the girls on a Friday night.

Also what I love is that Reese keeps the look simple - as should you. Either leave your hair down or put it up in a cute pony tail or bun or even use a Blair Waldorf-esque hair band. Additionally Reese brings in trends in a way that's cute and not too distracting...the accessories - look at her cute leopard print flats!. Jewelry should be worn in moderation. Nothing that makes too much noise and a watch is always a nice touch at the office.
Additionally keep your make up neutral. You don't want to distract at a meeting because your face looks like a disco ball from all the glitter you've piled up on it. Again save the fun make up for girls night.
Well I'm off for now. Talk to you soon!
