Time to Hit the Roof!

May 10, 2013 at 7:33 am by Lea Mills

So I know it's been a crazy long time since I last posted but there's good reason. I was finishing my 3L year of law school and it's been crazy. But now that all finals are in and summer is here I have time for one of my favorite summer activities...Drinking Outside!

Once the weather is warm and I've dusted off my shorts and dresses I love going to bars that have an outdoor patio and in the best situation are located on a rooftop. Some of my favorite spots to hit up are Continental Mid-town, Fat Tuesday, and the Empire Hotel

Continental Mid-town is a great rooftop bar located at 1801 Chestnut Street, Philadelphia. Not only is it a quality bar, but you can also go there for dinner and just keep the party going afterwards. The rooftop offers spectacular views of Center City Philadelphia and provides an excellent lounge type atmosphere. It's definitely not a t-shirt and flip flops type of spot but if you're looking for a great night with the girls where you can get all dressed up it's the place to go.  The drinks are a combination of contemporary "pop" drinks and fabulous "retro" drinks. From the "retro" drinks I highly recommend the "Aviation" cocktail. This cocktail is refreshing with a nice citrus twist as it has fresh lemon - what could be better for summer? The "pop" drink that I think is best for outdoor drinking is the "Twizzle" which has the great benefit of tasting like a Twizzler so for those of you that don't like the taste of alcohol in your drinks it's a perfect match.

Time to move on down to 431 South Street, Philadelphia where you can get a taste of Mardi Gras and New Orleans at Fat Tuesday. Fat Tuesday isn't a rooftop bar but does have an elevated patio that allows you look onto South Street and see all the art and culture that is this part of Philadelphia. The only drink you should get at Fat Tuesday are there daiquiris. These are cold, refreshing, and huge. They have plenty of alcohol and one is sure to get your night started off right. With a huge amount of varieties to choose from (Strawberry and Mango are the best in my opinion but 190 Octane is the most popular) you'll feel like you're transported to Bourbon Street, even if you're just watching the Phillies beat the Mets

The final place is in my favorite city in the world New York City. You Gossip Girl fans will recall that this was the infamous Chuck Bass' home, the Empire Hotel and it's amazing rooftop bar. Located at 44 West 63rd Street, in the wonderful New York City, the Empire Hotel Rooftop bar hosts spectacular views of Lincoln Center and the Broadway and Columbus Avenue gateway to Manhattan's Upper West Side. This bar is the perfect place to lounge and feel utterly and totally glamorous. Order your favorite cocktail or get a Manhattan elite drink like a martini or cosmopolitan, but watch out because you never know who may be watching.

Whether you're in Philadelphia or New York City you can always find a great place to drink outdoors and enjoy life.

Cheers to the Weekend!

New Year, New Clothes

January 17, 2013 at 10:00 pm by Lea Mills

Welcome to 2013!!!! The holidays are over and resolutions have begun to take effect. One of your resolutions should be updating that winter wardrobe. There's no reason to look drab just because the weather is.

One of the easiest and best ways to update your winter wardrobe is to add some great accessories and outerwear. For starters buy a brightly colored coat. A classic pea coat in a great color like bright orange or cobalt blue brings some brightness to those cold and dark winter days. Look to Kate Spade or J. Crew. Additionally, adding some brightly colored heels or a richly colored bag is an easy, and not overpowering way to add some color to your outfit.

For the bolder among us you can do head to toe color and a white winter coat. There's nothing saying that just because it's winter you have to be drab. All blacks and grays are a thing of the past, it's ok to wear bright colors as a main outfit staple now that it's winter. However, if you aren't feeling too bold add a rich color like a burgundy. It's still dark enough to keep up with the dark clothing theme of winter but gives a nice pop of color that looks great on most people.

Another great thing to add besides color is some playful prints or patterns. A great way to do this and not be too obnoxious is to have a statement scarf. You can find some really cute ones at a great price from Forever 21. You can also add in something like leopard, which is not too overpowering if done correctly like in a great tailored skirt.

It's the time for resolutions and remaking yourself, and one of the best ways to reflect the new you is to add a new wardrobe.

Happy Shopping!
